Media

In my A-Levels, I continued my passion for Media after achieving an A* in GCSE. This time we were tasked with producing two cover pages and two contents pages for our very own fashion magazine, as well as creating a website and an audiovisual video. I found this project enjoyable as I was able to apply what I learned from my GCSEs to my A-Levels. I'm proud of how the magazine turned out, although I do recognise areas for improvement. However, I believe that as you continue to work on something, you will always find areas for improvement.

The audiovisual video I produced was a short clip designed to promote the magazine and introduce the models and behind-the-scenes footage of the photoshoots. The website we created had to use only our own photos and logos, which limited the visual elements, but I found the overall concept to be engaging and fun to create. For my two-year Photography course, I created a large collection of multiple sketchbooks, extension pieces, and videos. I was pleased to achieve an overall grade of A. For our graded work, we were given the choice to select one topic ourselves and had to pick another from a handful of options provided to us. I chose landscapes as it was my initial interest in photography, and for the second topic, I decided to explore the theme of audience, viewers, and spectators. It was an exciting opportunity for me to experiment with portrait photography and try something new. This extension piece is a unique take on the Nerve movie poster and showcases my skills in combining multiple images and adding glitch effects to create a striking visual. Additionally, I challenged myself by experimenting with time-lapses and hyper-lapses, which were new techniques for me. Though these videos were mainly used to test different editing techniques and styles, they allowed me to progress and push my skills in both photography and cinematography. Despite not being the cleanest or most polished videos, they were fun to create and allowed me to step out of my comfort zone.

For my 15 hour final exam in photography, I created a unique video using a cardboard camera that I built from scratch. The camera was designed to fit around the monitor, giving the impression that the audience is watching the video through the camera. The video included elements that I had learned throughout the course, and at the end, it featured a lens that looked back at the audience, creating a sense of being watched as well as being a spectator. One of my favourite aspects of the project was incorporating street photography, which allowed me to capture people in candid moments and capture their reactions.
